Pearls, Explained
Every pearl is made slowly, layer by layer, inside a living mollusc. No two are ever quite the same, and that is exactly why we love them. Here is a little guide to the pearls you will find in our pieces.
Round
The classic. Perfectly round pearls are the rarest shape of all, prized for their smooth, even glow. Timeless on a strand or as a single drop.
Baroque
Free-form, organic and full of character. Baroque pearls grow in irregular shapes, so every one is a true one-of-a-kind. Perfectly imperfect.
Keshi
Formed without a bead nucleus, keshi pearls are made almost entirely of nacre, which gives them an incredible lustre and soft, petal-like shapes.
Rice
Small, oval pearls shaped like grains of rice. Light, delicate and easy to layer for everyday wear.
Biwa
Long, flat, stick-shaped freshwater pearls, named after Lake Biwa in Japan where they were first cultivated. Modern and sculptural.
Seed
The tiniest pearls, usually just a few millimetres across. Strung together they create a fine, textured shimmer that is lovely for stacking.
Looking after your pearls
Pearls are soft and love a little care: put them on last, after perfume and lotions, wipe them gently with a soft cloth after wearing, and store them separately so they do not get scratched. For more, see our Caring for your pieces guide.
